Ok, that’s not brand new information. Marvel comics have had a fantastic history of gay characters over the years, but right now we’re talking about Marvel on TV.

The upcoming Netflix exclusive Jessica Jones recently screened at New York Comic Con and it went down very well indeed.

Fans have reported that attorney Jeri Hogarth, played by Carrie-Anne Moss, is a lesbian character shown cheating on her partner with another woman. The character in the comics was originally a guy called Jeryn Hogarth.

MARVEL'S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. - "Laws of Nature" - "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." returns for an action-packed third season on TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 29 (9:00-10:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. On the season premiere episode, "Laws of Nature," when Coulson and the team discover a new Inhuman, S.H.I.E.L.D. comes face to face with another organization searching for powered people. And still reeling from Simmons' dramatic disappearance, Fitz goes to extreme lengths to try to learn how to get her back. (ABC/Kelsey McNeal) JUAN PABLO RABA

The title of ‘first gay character’ can’t really be given to Carrie-Anne though as she was beaten by Juan Pablo Raba. Juan popped up as a new character called Joey Gutierrez in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D a few weeks ago.

We hope this marks the beginning of more diversity in our on-screen super hero line-ups.  And, as we alluded to in the beginning of this post, Marvel has a whole host of awesome gay characters it can start pulling from the pages and onto our screens.
