SIX Season 2 Air Date Set for 2018 by History Channel: Criticized for being too graphic, raw and sexually explicit, the show will have a chance to redeem itself

Storyline and plot

On January 18th, 2017, a new action war show called SIX premiered on the History channel. Behind this new series are the production companies A+E Studios and The Weinstein Company and the executive producers are well-known names such as William Broyles Jr. (Cast Away, Planet of the Apes), who also wrote the show, Karen Campbell (Dexter) and Leslie Linka Glatter (Homeland, The Walking Dead, Nashville), who also directs the show together with Michael Salomon amongst others.

SIX is a show about Navy SEALS as they go about their daily lives, while they are trying to eliminate a Taliban leader. As they find out that Americans have been working with the terrorists things go downhill faster than anyone could imagine. One of the main characters in this war drama is Walter Goggins as Rip Taggart, who so far has been seen in the strangest roles – for example Venus van Damme in Sons of Anarchy – and in SIX he now plays the leader of a SEALS team, who are trying to protect an African village from a local villain. Other leading roles are played by Kyle Schmid, Juan Pablo Raba, Edwin Hodge, Brianne Davis and Nadine Velazquez to name but a few.

The key words on the SIX Season 1 box (out now on Blu-ray plus Digital HD & DVD) are “Inspired by SEAL Team Six missions.” The show may have aired on the History Channel, but it’s a highly fictional story about brotherhood and the price paid by the families of the men who serve.

The show’s broadcast was a big success and it’s already been renewed for Season 2. Season 1 focuses on the saga of Richard “Rip” Taggart (Walton Goggins), the former SEAL Team Six leader who’s kidnapped by Boko Haram while working as a security contractor in Nigeria. He separated from the Navy after making an questionable decision on a mission in Afghanistan and that choice may or may not be haunting him.

His former men want to rescue him and the schoolgirls who are also held hostage, but matters are complicated by Michael, an American-born terrorist with a personal grudge against Taggart.

History’s track record with original programming has been noteworthy, from its series “Vikings” with its cult following to the Emmy-winning “Hatfields & McCoys” (2012) and impressive reboot of “Roots” (2016).

Not surprisingly, “Six,” the new military drama from the Weinstein Company, is another feather in its cap. Co-creators and writers are William Broyles, an Emmy-nominated Vietnam veteran, and his son, David, a military special operations veteran.

“Six” premieres on History (Spectrum channels 49 and 107) at 9 p.m. Wednesday. Inspired by real missions, the eight-episode first season follows the members of Navy SEAL Team Six in and out of combat.

After an operation in Afghanistan goes awry, the team returns to states to resume their “normal” lives. Their work and extended absences, however, have taken a toll on their family lives. So when the team’s former commander — Walton Goggins (“Justified,” “Vice Principals”) — is captured in Nigeria, the team is itching to regroup and rescue him.

The team includes Barry Sloane (“Revenge”), Kyle Schmid (“Copper”) and Juan Pablo Raba (“Narcos”).

While action scenes from such military fare as “The Last Ship” come off as a bit hokey, that’s not the case with “Six.” The combat looks and feels real. That’s a credit to the Broyles. With TV veterans Goggins and Sloane, the acting’s on par with action.

My only complaint: All of the principal SEAL members have trouble at home. I know it adds conflict for dramatic purposes, but couldn’t one of them be well adjusted. Grade: B+

History channel’s locally filmed military drama “Six” will not report for duty Monday as originally expected.

The eight-episode series, which is wrapping up filming in Wilmington, was scheduled to premiere Monday before the network quietly delayed the show until fall.

Requests for comment and a reason for the delay from A&E Networks were not returned.

No official premiere date has been announced.

Actor Barry Sloane briefly referenced the delay in a June 27 tweet, which included a picture of the cast in full military gear.

is arriving on this fall. Later than expected but worth waiting for I guarantee.

The series follows the personal and professional lives of the men of Navy SEAL Team Six. The first season will cover the team’s 2014 mission to eliminate a Taliban leader in Afghanistan, which goes awry when they uncover a U.S. citizen working as a jihadist fighter with the terrorists.

Sloane, Walton Goggins, Kyle Schmid, Juan Pablo Raba and Edwin Hodges star.

The show will head out to Carolina Beach Tuesday to film at High Tide Pier and Gulfstream Restaurant.
